Audi's SRO GT2 customer car: a 640 PS, rear-drive R8 with low downforce, built for amateur drivers who want more power than a GT3 car but simpler aero. It won the first three GT2 European Series Pro-Am titles. Audi ended production in 2024, so parts access now matters as much as condition.

## History

Audi Sport customer racing showed the R8 LMS GT2 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July 2019 [0]. It was the second model committed to SRO's new GT2 category, after Porsche's 911 GT2 RS Clubsport [0][5]. SRO built GT2 for amateur drivers. The cars carry more power than a GT3 car but much less downforce, closer to GT4 levels [5][6]. Most entries make between 640 and 700 hp [5].

The car is based on the R8 Spyder V10 performance and shares its platform with the GT3 and GT4 versions [0][1]. Audi developed it at the Böllinger Höfe site near Heilbronn and assembled it at Neckarsulm with the road R8 [1][3]. About 55 percent of its parts come from the road car [2]. The 5.2 V10 gives 640 PS and drives the rear wheels through a 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch gearbox [2][17]. The launch price was €338,000 plus VAT, or $398,000 in the US [0][4].

Its first race was the GT Sports Club finale at Barcelona in September 2019, against GT3 cars [1]. Customer deliveries started in December 2019 [1]. In 2021 SRO turned its GT Sports Club into the GT2 European Series [5]. Audi customer teams won the Pro-Am title in each of the first three seasons [13][14][15]. Also in 2021, Audi sold a six-car Color Edition at €349,000 plus VAT, one car per paint colour [3].

In July 2023 Audi said it would end its strategic customer racing work to put resources into Formula 1 [8]. Production of customer cars stopped after the first quarter of 2024 [8]. Audi said the cars would stay homologated for at least one more cycle, with a basic spare parts supply until 2032 [8][9][10]. Parts are now sold through Audi's ascr-parts.com shop. Prices across the range rose 10 percent on 1 April 2026 [11].

## Palmarès

The car raced for the first time at the GT Sports Club finale at Barcelona in September 2019 [1]. In the 2021 GT2 European Series, High Class Racing's Anders Fjordbach and Mark Patterson won the Pro-Am title, with PK Carsport second in another Audi [13][7]. In 2022 PK Carsport's Stienes Longin and Nicolas Saelens took the Pro-Am title and Henry Hassid won the Am class for LP Racing, both in Audis [14]. PK Carsport also won the 2022 Belcar Endurance title, and CJ Moses took the GT2 class in GT America [18]. Henry Hassid and Anthony Beltoise won the 2023 Pro-Am title for LP Racing [15]. After that the Pro-Am crown went to a KTM X-Bow GT2 in 2024 and a Lamborghini in 2025 [19][20].

## What to check before you buy

Ask for engine and gearbox hours or kilometres since the last Audi-approved service, with invoices: GT2 intervals are not public. Audi's GT3 benchmark for the same V10 is a 10,000 km service and a 20,000 km rebuild, so undocumented mileage is a real cost risk. Confirm you or your team can open an account on Audi's R8 LMS parts shop: The GT2 catalogue sits behind a login, and access is granted on request through R8LMS-parts@audi.de. Read the expiry dates on all dated safety and fuel-system items before agreeing a price: Audi warns that lead times for parts with expiration dates are getting longer, so a car with items near expiry may need early, slow orders. Inspect carbon bodywork, wing and diffuser for repairs, and price any missing or cracked parts: Comparable GT3 carbon parts list at roughly €8,900 to €10,200 each after the 2026 price rises. For a Color Edition car, get Audi documents proving it is one of the six original cars: Only six were built, one per colour, and they ask far more than standard cars. A repaint can imitate the look. Check the homologation papers match GT2-002 and the car's current configuration: GT2 European Series and other SRO GT2 classes accept homologated GT2 cars, and Audi said homologation would run at least one more cycle after 2023. Ask about race history in GT2 European Series, Belcar or Dubai 24h and any accident repairs: Many cars ran full seasons with Pro-Am and Am crews, and some did endurance events such as Dubai.

## Did you know

- At launch it was the most powerful car Audi Sport customer racing had ever offered, ahead of the R8 LMS GT3 [0].
- Its first race was against GT3 cars, at the GT Sports Club finale in Barcelona in September 2019, before the GT2 class had its own grid [1].
- PK Carsport planned to enter a GT2-spec R8 in the Dubai 24 Hours in 2022, a first for the class [7].

## Frequently asked questions

**What is the SRO GT2 class?** SRO created GT2 in 2018 for amateur drivers. The cars make around 640 to 700 hp, more than a GT3 car, but carry much less downforce, closer to GT4. The idea is a fast car that is easier to drive near its limit. The Audi was the second model homologated, as GT2-002.

**Can I still get parts now Audi has stopped customer racing?** Yes. Audi promised a basic spare parts supply until 2032 and runs a parts shop at ascr-parts.com, which needs an account. Expect higher prices: the whole range rose 10 percent in April 2026, and from October 2026 deliveries outside the EU are Ex Works only.

**How often does the V10 need a rebuild?** Audi has not published GT2-specific figures that we could find. For the GT3 version of the same 5.2 V10, Audi quoted a service every 10,000 km and a rebuild at 20,000 km. Treat that as a guide only, and ask the seller for documented hours and Audi-approved service invoices.

**Where can I race an R8 LMS GT2?** The main home is the GT2 European Series, with Pro-Am and Am classes and two 50-minute races per weekend. GT America has a GT2 class, and series such as Belcar, the 24H Series and NLS have run GT2 cars. Always check current balance of performance and entry rules.

**Is the ABT XGT the same car?** No. The ABT XGT is a road-legal derivative built by ABT Sportsline on the GT2 design, limited to 99 cars and sold at €598,000 in 2023. It has number plates and weighs about 1,400 kg. It is not a homologated GT2 race car.

**What does an R8 LMS GT2 cost?** New, it cost €338,000 plus VAT in 2019, and the six Color Edition cars €349,000 plus VAT in 2021. One Color Edition was advertised at €530,000 plus VAT in March 2025. Standard used cars rarely show public prices, so budget for spares and service on top.
