## History

BMW Motorsport opened sales of the M4 GT4 during the Nürburgring 24 Hours weekend in May 2017 [4]. The car filled the gap between the M235i Racing and the M6 GT3 in the customer range [4]. A media car raced that year's 24 Hours and won its class, despite a gearbox problem late on [8]. Customer cars were sold for the 2018 season at €169,000 net, including a starter package [3].

The first car used the F82 M4 Coupé body with the 2,979 cc S55 twin-turbo six and a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox [2][16]. BMW quoted more than 431 hp, with plug-in power sticks to match each Balance of Performance table [2]. It was homologated as RACB GT4-036 from 24 May 2017 and later gained an EVO 2021 variant [6]. Customer teams such as Century Motorsport raced F82 cars in British GT from 2018 to 2022 [12].

The second-generation car, based on the G82 M4, was shown at Virginia International Raceway in June 2022 [0]. It moved to a 2,993 cc six rated at up to 550 hp and 650 Nm, again subject to BoP [0]. The dual-clutch unit gave way to a ZF automatic with motorsport software and a Drexler limited-slip differential [0]. The net price was €187,000, with production from October 2022 for the 2023 season [0]. It carries homologation RACB GT4-046 [6].

BMW presented the M4 GT4 EVO at the Spa 24 Hours in June 2024 [1]. The update focused on reliability and drivability, with a new splitter mounting, stronger rear wheel bearings and redesigned flicks [1]. A complete EVO cost €219,000 net, and a retrofit kit for existing G82 cars cost €16,000 [1]. BMW then won the SRO global GT4 manufacturers' title in 2024 and 2025 [17].

## Palmarès

The F82 media car won its class on debut at the 2017 Nürburgring 24 Hours [8]. Century Motorsport's sale listing claims British GT GT4 teams' titles in 2018 and 2021 for its F82 [12]. It also claims the 2021 drivers' title [12]. F82 EVO cars won SP10 at the 2022 Nürburgring 24 Hours and SP8T in 2023 [18]. The G82 EVO helped BMW win the SRO global GT4 manufacturers' title in 2024 and 2025 [17]. In 2025 it also took all three GT4 America class titles [17].

## What to check before you buy

Confirm the car is a BMW Motorsport build, not an Ekris conversion: Ekris M4 GT4 homologation GT4-028 expired at the end of 2021, while the BMW F82 car (GT4-036) runs to 2028 [6]. Ask which update level is fitted: F82 base or EVO 2021, G82 base or G82 EVO: The G82 EVO kit costs €16,000 net and changes bearings, splitter and flicks [1]. Asking prices for EVO and non-EVO G82s differed by about €40,000 in 2026 [14]. Read the expiry dates on the fuel cell, belts and extinguisher: Sellers quote fuel cell certification dates, and an expired FT3 cell must be renewed before scrutineering [11][12]. Get total kilometres and the engine history: Mileage ranges widely, from 3,549 km on a G82 [14] to 36,744 km on an F82 whose engine was replaced at 13,350 km [12]. Ask when wheel bearings, hubs and front ball joints were last renewed: These parts were replaced repeatedly on raced F82 cars, and BMW reinforced the rear bearings on the G82 EVO [11][1]. Make sure the full set of power sticks and the data cables come with the car: Power is set to BoP with power sticks [2]. Sellers list the full range of sticks and ECU data cables as part of the deal [12][13]. For an F82, check the spares package and supply of factory-only parts: Some homologated F82 parts are released only at BMW Motorsport's discretion, with very limited availability [10]. Inspect the front end for accident repairs: Sellers report replaced bumpers and fenders after contact [13], and the G82 front splitter mounting was revised in 2024 [1].

## Did you know

- The G82 M4 GT4 uses Bcomp natural-fibre parts inside and outside, and its bonnet has aero louvres [0].
- The G82 comes with air conditioning and a heated windscreen as standard [0].
- BMW said the F82 had covered more than 12,000 miles of testing before sales began [3].

## Frequently asked questions

**How do I tell an F82 M4 GT4 from a G82?** Look at the grille and the gearbox. The F82 has the small horizontal kidneys, an S55 engine and a dual-clutch gearbox [2]. The G82 has the large vertical kidneys, a ZF automatic, the M Track Cockpit and a Fanatec wheel [0]. Homologation numbers also differ: GT4-036 for F82, GT4-046 for G82 [6].

**Can a G82 M4 GT4 be upgraded to EVO?** Yes. BMW M Motorsport sold an EVO kit for €16,000 net, delivered from Q4 2024 [1]. It brings a revised splitter mounting, stronger rear wheel bearings, new flicks and a traction control switch on the wheel [1]. Ask for the invoice, because EVO cars asked about €40,000 more than non-EVO cars in 2026 [14].

**Is an F82 still worth buying for racing?** Its BMW Motorsport homologation runs until 31 December 2028, so it stays legal in SRO GT4 series until then [6]. Each series sets its own BoP, so check the current table before buying. Spares for some factory-only parts are limited, so a big spares package adds real value [10][12].

**What is an Ekris M4 GT4?** It is a separate F82-based GT4 car developed by Ekris Motorsport, with homologation GT4-028 from 2016 [6]. That homologation ended on 31 December 2021 [6]. It is not the BMW Motorsport car, so check the papers if a listing price looks low.

**How long does the engine last between rebuilds?** No official BMW Motorsport interval was found in public sources. One British GT F82 needed a new engine at 13,350 km and reached 36,744 km in total [12]. Another seller changed engine oil every 1,000 km [13]. Ask the seller for the engine's own kilometre count and service invoices.
