It won three IRC titles, three ERC titles, an SWRC crown and two APRC crowns between 2010 and 2014. Today it suits national rallies and hillclimbs where S2000 cars still run.

## History

Škoda left the WRC with the turbocharged Fabia WRC and chose the FIA's new Super 2000 Rally class for its return. The rules asked for permanent four-wheel drive, a two-litre naturally aspirated engine and little electronics [1]. The concept was shown in 2008 and prototype tests started at the end of that year [0][2]. The engine came from the French firm Oreca, the gearbox from Xtrac in Britain [3].

The car debuted at Rallye Monte-Carlo in January 2009 with Jan Kopecký and Juho Hänninen in the two works cars [0]. Kopecký finished fourth on that first outing [2]. Hänninen won Rally Russia in July, Kopecký took the Barum Rally and the Rally Costa Brava, and Škoda ended 2009 second among manufacturers without contesting the full IRC calendar [1][2].

A facelifted car appeared at the 2010 Geneva motor show and first ran at the Ypres Rally, where Škoda finished first and second [2]. The new front matched the updated road car, width grew from 1,798 mm to 1,820 mm, and revised manifolds lifted output from 265 hp to 270 hp [0][2]. Dark headlights followed in 2012 and further cosmetic changes in 2014 [0]. Škoda also tested the engine for the later Fabia R5 inside an S2000 body [0].

The car was a customer product from the start. Škoda Motorsport built 63 cars and set up its customer programme around the project [0][11]. Customer crews won 50 national and international titles with it between 2009 and 2014 [0][1]. The works team retired the car after 2014 and moved to the Fabia R5, which debuted in 2015 [4][8]. In a 2024 fan vote run by the ERC, the Fabia S2000 was named the championship's greatest car of the modern era [4].

## Palmarès

Škoda took the IRC manufacturers' title in 2010, 2011 and 2012 [5][6][4]. Juho Hänninen and Mikko Markkula won the 2010 IRC drivers' title with Kopecký second [5]. In 2011 Andreas Mikkelsen, Kopecký and Hänninen filled the top three IRC places, and Hänninen won the SWRC title [6]. Mikkelsen won the IRC again in 2012 [4]. Hänninen won the 2012 ERC with 203 points [10]. Kopecký and Pavel Dresler clinched the 2013 ERC in Croatia with six wins from eight starts [7]. Esapekka Lappi took the 2014 ERC with 162 points to Sepp Wiegand's 128 [8]. Kopecký and Dresler also won the 2014 APRC, six wins from six [9]. In all the car collected 50 titles between 2009 and 2014 [1].

## What to check before you buy

Ask for the engine's kilometres since rebuild and who did the work: The Oreca engine is the costliest item; the best listings state 0 km since rebuild and the mapping used. Check the Xtrac gearbox and diff service dates: Sellers quote the last service year; a 2026 listing quoted a 2025 service and spares to build a second gearbox. Confirm the FIA technical passport (Gold Pass) and homologation papers: National series accept S2000 cars only in conformity with their homologation papers, including weight. Identify the build year and body version: Pre-facelift cars are 1,798 mm wide with 265 hp; facelift cars are 1,820 mm with 270 hp. Inspect dampers and ask which specification is fitted: Reiger Evo 2 configuration is the common fit; new tarmac dampers were offered at USD 8,700 in 2026. Read the expiry dates on seats, harnesses and the extinguisher: Replacing all three adds cost; a 2026 listing quoted validity to 2029 and 2028. Ask whether a spares package is included or priced separately: The same ex-works car was offered at €100,000 alone and €139,000 with spares.

## Did you know

- Škoda said the 280 hp S2000 gave away only about twenty horsepower to the turbocharged Fabia WRC it replaced [1].
- In 2011 Škoda drivers finished first, second and third in the IRC, and the brand won its first SWRC title in the same year [6].
- The engine for the later Fabia R5 was first tested inside a Fabia S2000 bodyshell [0].

## Frequently asked questions

**How many Fabia S2000 cars were built?** Škoda Motorsport says the project ended with 63 cars, sold to customers and run by the works team between 2009 and 2015. The 200 Fabia vRS S2000 road cars from 2010 are a separate special edition and not rally cars [0][11][4].

**What is the difference between an early car and an Evo 2?** The 2010 facelift brought the new road-car front, a width of 1,820 mm instead of 1,798 mm, revised manifolds and 270 hp against 265 hp. Sellers often call facelift cars Evo 2, and damper sets are sold under that name [0][2][12].

**Can I still rally a Fabia S2000 in 2026?** Yes at national level. Motorsport UK places S2000 cars in Class 1 and Motorsport Ireland in Class 5, both to the car's homologation papers. For FIA regional events, check the current eligibility list first [16][17].

**What should I budget for a good car?** A rebuilt ex-works car was offered at €100,000 alone and €139,000 with a spares package in 2025–2026. New the car cost about £210,000 in 2010. Prices for privateer cars without works history are not published [3][12][13].

**Are parts still available?** Škoda Motorsport runs the customer parts programme it created for the S2000 and ships from a stock of over half a million parts, though the catalogue now centres on the Rally2 cars. Used Xtrac gearboxes and dampers also appear on marketplaces [11][14][15].
