## History

Toyota showed a GR Supra GT4 concept at Geneva in March 2019. The conversion was done by Toyota Motorsport GmbH in Cologne, independently of BMW Motorsport, around the road car's B58 engine [1]. In October 2019 Toyota announced European sales from March 2020, with North America following in August and Japan and Asia in October [0]. The planned price was €175,000 before taxes and logistics [0].

The car first raced in June 2020 [22]. Its first overall GT4 European Series win came at Spa in 2020, in its tenth race in the series, with CMR's Stéphane Lémeret and Gael Castelli [8]. By April 2023 Toyota had built 100 cars, and by the end of 2022 they had scored 79 class wins in 317 race starts [4].

For 2023 Toyota launched the GR Supra GT4 EVO. It brought more power, a revised torque curve of up to 660 Nm, better engine cooling, new ABS settings, revised brakes, newer KW dampers and changed anti-roll bars [2]. A complete EVO cost €186,000, and an upgrade kit was offered to existing owners, with no price published [2].

The EVO2 followed in August 2024 for the 2025 season, priced at an expected €202,000 in Europe [3]. Changes focus on reliability and ease of driving. ABS maps were retuned, rev-matching software shortened downshifts, and engine, brake and drivetrain cooling were improved [3]. Toyota's 2026 brochure adds a moved radiator, extra cooling fans, bigger brake duct intakes and redesigned wheel studs [5]. Sales and support run through TGR Europe in Cologne, TRD USA, Toyota Customizing & Development in Japan and Toyota China [3][5].

## Palmarès

The Supra won its first GT4 European Series race at Spa in 2020 with CMR [8]. Chassis 29 won the 2021 GT4 Scandinavia title [9]. In July 2023 Hattori Motorsports gave Toyota its first IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge win at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, after the BMW that finished first was penalised [10]. Saitama Green Brave won the Super Taikyu ST-Z title in 2023 and 2024, and the 2023 GT4 France Silver title went to Matmut Evolution [11][12]. Toyo Tires with Ring Racing won the NLS SP10 title at the Nürburgring in 2024 and SP10-AM in 2025 [12][13]. Across 2025 the model scored 26 overall and 88 class wins from 562 entries [13]. British GT results have been thin: one class podium from eight starts in 2024 [12]. CRT-Sport won race 2 of the 2026 GT4 European Series opener at Paul Ricard [17].

## What to check before you buy

Confirm the exact version and which EVO or EVO2 parts are fitted: Original cars could be upgraded with a kit, and the EVO2 kit is sold separately at extra cost, so a car's name in the ad may not match its parts. Ask for engine and gearbox kilometres and the TGR Europe service log: Sellers quote engine and gearbox mileage from the TGR log; one 2025 ad gave 15,803 km with full TGR maintenance. Check that the BoP power sticks and ballast box come with the car: The car's power level is selected with power sticks to match SRO BoP; without them it cannot be set up for a given series. Inspect the logbook, roll cage certificate and fuel cell certificate: The ATL FT3 cell and FIA cage need valid papers for scrutineering; a 2025 sale ad listed all three as included. Test the ABS and ask about any fault history: ABS behaviour changed with each update, and an ABS failure in 2024 cost a GT4 America car its race through flat-spotted tyres. Check the wheel studs and the cooling layout: The EVO2 brought new wheel studs, a moved radiator and extra fans; an older car without them may need parts before a summer season. If the car runs another club specification, ask for every GT4 part removed: The RCN listing in October 2026 was in WRL trim, with parts supplied to convert it back to GT4 EVO.

## Did you know

- Only three GR Supra GT4 100 Edition cars were made, one each for Europe, North America and Asia [4].
- Billy Johnson's 2023 IMSA win in a Hattori Supra was his 24th in the series, a record at the time [10].
- Toyota placed third in SRO's global GT4 manufacturer ranking for 2025, its first time in that position [18].

## Frequently asked questions

**Is the engine the same as the road Supra's?** Yes. Toyota said in 2019 that the GT4 uses the original-equipment engine from the road car, which is the BMW-made B58 3.0-litre straight-six. Toyota Motorsport in Cologne did the race conversion without BMW Motorsport's involvement. Power is then capped by SRO balance of performance through power sticks.

**Can an original 2020 car be brought up to current specification?** Toyota offered an EVO upgrade kit to existing owners in 2022, and a 2025 sale ad shows an original car converted to EVO with the EVO2 kit available at extra cost. Neither kit price was published, so ask TGR Europe or your regional distributor for a quote before you buy.

**Does it have a sequential gearbox?** No. It uses a modified ZF automatic with paddle shift and a motorsport limited-slip differential. Toyota's own GT4 page lists seven speeds, while Toyota Australia describes an eight-speed ZF. The EVO2 update changed the shift software for faster rev-matched downshifts.

**Where do I get parts?** Parts and technical support come from the factory network: TGR Europe in Cologne, TRD USA in North America, Toyota Customizing & Development in Japan and Asia, Toyota China, and TGR New Zealand for Australia. Ask the seller which centre has the car's service history.

**How many were built?** Toyota reported 100 cars built by April 2023 and more than 120 sold by August 2024, counting all versions. No later figure or chassis register has been published, so the total today is likely higher but unconfirmed.
