## History

Toyota Gazoo Racing built its first modern customer rally car around the GR Yaris homologation special: the Rally2 version pairs the mandated 1.6 turbo (a reworked G16E derivative) with the class's five-speed sequential and mechanical differentials, engineered by the same Finnish operation that runs the works WRC programme — customer rallying with world-championship engineering lineage.

Deliveries began in 2023 and results came fast: WRC2 event wins, European and national championship victories from Finland to Japan, and a customer order book that outran early production. TGR's parts-and-support network scaled through 2024–25 as the car matured update by update.

For buyers the GR Yaris Rally2 is the class's newest mainstream choice: values hold near list while demand exceeds supply, TGR support is factory-direct, and the car's gravel-first balance — bred on Finnish test roads — gives it a distinct character against the tarmac-refined Škoda. Early adopters trade waiting-list position as much as machinery; the used market proper is only now forming as first-generation cars cycle.

## Palmarès

WRC2 event victories from 2023 onward including home-soil success at Rally Finland's support classes; Finnish and Japanese national championship titles; European rally wins as the customer fleet spread — the fast-accumulating early record of the class's newest front-runner.

## What to check before you buy

TGR's chassis file (build, updates, crash history) is the document — the fleet is young enough that every car's life is traceable. Verify homologation/update state against the current season's jokers, engine and gearbox hours (schedules mirror class norms), and damper kit inventory. Because demand exceeds supply, beware grey-channel cars without factory support enrolment: TGR's parts pipeline is the ownership case. Waiting-list-fresh cars trade at or above list; a lightly-used example with full support standing is the realistic value entry.

## Did you know

- The Rally2 project was announced with Jari-Matti Latvala testing prototypes between WRC team-principal duties — the boss did the shakedowns himself.
- TGR chose Finland for the customer programme's base so Rally2 and Rally1 development could share test roads — privateers buy kilometres of world-champion tuning heritage.
- Early allocations sold out so fast that TGR prioritized active championship contenders — winning became an ordering criterion.
