History
Pit signalling predates every electronic channel racing has: the board hung at the wall — position, gap, laps, IN — was Grand Prix racing's only telemetry for most of its history, and the discipline never died because its failure mode never appeared: boards work through radio silence, electronics bans, rain-soaked comms and the endurance-racing night.
