King offroad shocks

King is desert suspension's hand-built counterweight: the Californian shop whose 2.5/3.0 coilovers and bypass shocks (the 3.0 bypass a category signature) contest Fox's establishment with race-shop culture — serviced, revalved, and argued about in every off-road paddock.

History

King Shocks built Garden Grove into the desert's other suspension address: race dampers hand-assembled in the US — coilovers and external-bypass shocks in the 2.5/3.0/3.5 body ladder, remote reservoirs and finned hardware managing Baja heat — with the company's race-shop identity (build sheets, revalving conversations, race support trailers at the desert classics) cultivating the loyalty tribe that keeps the Fox-versus-King argument the off-road world's Ford-versus-Chevy.

The customer map mirrors its rival's: trophy trucks and Class 1 through the SCORE/BITD professional desert tiers, the UTV racing wave, rock racing and King of the Hammers culture (the event name coincidence a marketing gift), prerunner and overland builds importing race hardware into recreation.

Used King hardware trades on the desert's shared rules: service currency (rebuild/revalve records from King or desert shops), shaft and body condition, application configuration — with the hand-built identity adding a build-sheet provenance layer the tribe values and the diligence remaining identical: seals and oil are consumables by the race, and unknown-hours shocks price as cores.

Palmarès

Baja 1000 and SCORE championships, King of the Hammers victories and short-course titles across the desert decades — the counterweight's record, argued lap-for-lap against the establishment in every results thread.

What to check before you buy

Desert damper law, tribe edition: rebuild/revalve history from King or recognised desert shops is the odometer — demand it or price the full service in; verify body size and travel configuration against your build, spring rates and reservoir plumbing completeness, shaft condition (pitting kills seals) and body straightness. Build sheets from King add provenance the resale market honours. UTV take-offs supply the volume channel here too. The Fox-versus-King choice is largely tribal at equal service states — buy the service history, not the argument.

Did you know

  • King of the Hammers shares the brand's name by coincidence — a marketing gift the company graciously declines to correct strangers about.
  • Hand-assembly in Garden Grove is the brand identity: build sheets and assembler accountability in a category rivals industrialised.
  • The Fox-versus-King forum war is off-road's Ford-versus-Chevy — decided in practice by whichever service shop is closer, as tribal wars usually are.
