History

Mocal — Think Automotive's house brand from West London — became British motorsport's oil-management vocabulary by accumulation: matrix cooler cores in the catalogue sizes generations memorised (row counts as specification language), sandwich-plate take-offs and remote-filter heads, thermostatic plates (oil-stat logic protecting cold engines from over-cooling — the detail separating racers from parts-fitters), and the braided-hose-and-union ecosystem that turns the catalogue into complete installations.

The adoption is club motorsport's plumbing default: kit cars and Caterham-world builds, historic racers whose original coolers died with their suppliers, rally and race preparation across the disciplines, and the fast-road overflow — with the brand functioning generically ('a Mocal setup') the way establishment names do, and OEM-adjacent supply threads through British specialist manufacturing.

Used cooler hardware trades on contamination honesty: a cooler core's internal history is invisible (engine-failure debris lodges in matrices and murders replacement engines — the trade's known horror), making used cores from unknown engines false economy, while thermostatic plates, adapters and unions audit and reuse rationally — the component-level split the experienced buyer applies automatically.
