Historic motorsport, ready to compete

Historic race cars combine collector value with active competition use. Many cars here come with valid FIA Historic Technical Passports, period-correct specifications, and entries in events like the Goodwood Revival, Le Mans Classic, Mille Miglia Storica, Tour Auto and Monaco Historic Grand Prix.

What defines a historic race car?

Cars in this section are typically:

  • Built or homologated in their period (pre-1990 is the common cutoff)
  • Restored to a period-correct specification
  • Eligible for FIA-sanctioned historic championships
  • Documented with chassis-number traceability and ownership history

Buying a historic race car — what to verify

  • FIA HTP papers or eligibility for a national equivalent (RAC/MSA, ASN, etc.)
  • Chassis number stamp and continuity of identity
  • Race history, period photos, programme entries
  • Engine and gearbox numbers — original or replacement
  • Major restoration receipts and specialists involved

Frequently asked questions

What is an FIA HTP?
The FIA Historic Technical Passport is the international document that certifies a car is built to period-correct specification and is eligible to compete in FIA-sanctioned historic events.
Can I race a classic car at Goodwood Revival?
Goodwood Revival is invitation-only, but the car must be pre-1966, period-correct and historically significant. Many cars listed here are Goodwood-eligible.
Are historic race cars a good investment?
Documented, original-chassis historic race cars with race history have historically appreciated steadily. Investment performance is not guaranteed — buy first for passion and use.
