IAME X30 engine
The IAME X30 is modern karting's people's engine: the sealed 125cc TaG two-stroke whose spec classes conquered the world — the KA100 sibling extending the family — racing's biggest single-make engine ecosystem outside rental karts.
History
IAME — Italy's historic kart-engine house from the Parilla lineage — created the X30 as the touch-and-go era's answer: a 125cc reed-valve two-stroke with onboard starter and clutch (~30 hp), deliberately sealed and spec-frozen so that X30 classes race drivers rather than engine builders — and the format conquered globally: X30 challenge series across Europe, the Americas, Asia and Oceania, national championships wholesale, and the IAME International Final as the ecosystem's world cup gathering hundreds of entries annually.
The KA100 sibling (100cc, lower-strung, even gentler costs) extended the philosophy into junior/entry tiers — Australia and the US adopting it as club karting's backbone — making IAME's spec family the largest owned-engine racing ecosystem on earth by participant count.
The market runs on seal-and-hours discipline: engines live under class seals with authorised-builder rebuild cycles, value follows hours since refresh and seal integrity, and the fleet's sheer scale keeps supply, parts and rebuild pricing the most transparent in motorsport — karting's economics working exactly as the spec format promised.
Palmarès
X30 world (International Final) and continental crowns, national titles across every karting continent, and the KA100's club-championship record — the spec ecosystem's palmares: the era's largest owned-kart grids, decided on driving.
What to check before you buy
Seals and hours are the engine: verify class-seal integrity (broken seals demote engines to practice units in spec classes) and hours since authorised rebuild — the X30's refresh cycles are known quantities, so the hour meter prices the unit almost mechanically. Confirm the exact spec for your region (X30 Senior/Junior configurations, KA100 variants) and the rebuild's builder (authorised names carry the paper that scrutineering trusts). Practice engines price honestly below race units. The fleet's scale is the buyer's friend: parts, rebuilds and comparison prices are transparent everywhere karting exists.
Did you know
- The IAME International Final gathers hundreds of X30s annually — a world championship for one sealed engine, the spec format's cathedral event.
- IAME descends from the Parilla kart-engine lineage — the people's spec engine carries one of karting's founding names inside it.
- TaG — touch and go — named the revolution: onboard starters ended push-start karting and opened the sport to anyone who could turn a key.
