McLaren 570S GT4 (2016–2023)
The 570S GT4 is McLaren's customer GT4 racer, built on the carbon MonoCell II tub of the 570S road car. It raced from 2016 and won titles in Europe and North America. SRO homologation ended in December 2024, so most cars now go to club racing, national series and track days.
History
McLaren revealed the 570S GT4 in March 2016 as a track-only version of its Sports Series road car 1. It was developed by McLaren GT with the specialist CRS GT 1. The car kept the road car's 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 and seven-speed gearbox. Changes included a fixed rear wing, a bigger splitter, an extra front radiator and Penske dampers 1. It was the first GT4 car built around a carbon fibre tub 1.
The 2016 season was a development year in British GT with Black Bull Ecurie Ecosse, which won two GT4 races 114. Customer cars followed for 2017 at £159,900 ex works 1. McLaren ended its contract with CRS in 2017. A High Court ruling in November 2018 let McLaren support 570S GT4 customers through its own motorsport retailer network 2.
McLaren then announced an update kit for 2019 aimed at reliability and lower maintenance, not performance 3. SRO rules ban evo kits in GT4, so the car kept its original homologation 3. For 2020 the price rose to £180,000 with a quick-release steering wheel included 4. An optional endurance brake kit was homologated from 1 March 2020 4. A £600 Sprint power upgrade raised output to 540 PS for use outside homologated racing 5.
In 2019 customer teams scored 140 podiums and three series titles 5. McLaren also built the road-legal 620R from the GT4 car, limited to 350 units 16. The Artura GT4 took over as McLaren's GT4 car with homologation from June 2022 7. The 570S GT4 homologation expired on 31 December 2024 7. Cars still race in club and national events and appear often at track days 811.
Palmarès
In its 2016 development season the car won two British GT4 races for Black Bull Ecurie Ecosse, including Donington 14. McLaren reported eight titles, 44 wins and 96 podiums for customer cars in the first full season 6. In 2019 teams scored 140 podiums and three titles, in North America, the UK and Scandinavia 5. One of those was the GT4 Scandinavia Pro-Am title for ALFAB Racing 15. Balfe Motorsport led a one-two in the 2019 Gulf 12 Hours 5. The racingsportscars database lists 20 overall wins and 42 class wins between 2016 and 2026 17. A former Team Rocket RJN car won the 2024 GT Cup with Jolt Racing 11.
What to check before you buy
Confirm the chassis number and the original McLaren Customer Racing identification plates: Dealers quote chassis numbers and plates; they tie the car to its race history and parts records. Ask for the component life sheets for engine, gearbox and safety parts: Some cars have no normal service book, only component life sheets. Ask whether the 2019 update kit and the 2020 endurance brake kit are fitted: The update kit addressed reliability; the brake kit was optional and could be retrofitted. Check the date labels on the fuel cell and seat: Expired items stop the car entering FIA-based GT4 events until replaced. Inspect turbochargers and exhaust manifolds for cracks or repair welds: At least one car needed turbo and manifold welding. Look under the car for floor and splitter abrasion: A 2023 auction car showed underside abrasions and a replaced windscreen. Ask for a recent McLaren inspection report: One car sold in 2024 came with a McLaren inspection from October 2024. Confirm the target series still accepts the car: SRO homologation GT4-030 expired on 31 December 2024; club rules vary.

Frequently asked questions
Can I still race a 570S GT4 in GT4 championships?
Not in SRO-homologated GT4 series. Homologation GT4-030 expired on 31 December 2024 and no extension was found. Many club and national series accept older GT cars under their own rules. Check the current regulations of the series you want before you buy.
Who supports the car with parts today?
McLaren took customer support in house after a High Court ruling against its former partner CRS GT in November 2018. Support runs through McLaren's motorsport retailer network. Ask your nearest McLaren motorsport retailer about parts lead times for your chassis before buying.
What did the 2019 and 2020 updates change?
The 2019 kit targeted reliability and maintenance, with no performance gain, but McLaren did not publish a parts list. The 2020 spec added an optional endurance brake kit with six-piston front calipers and new uprights. That kit could be retrofitted to earlier cars.
How much power does it make?
The road 570S makes 562 bhp. In GT4 racing the car ran at about 430 bhp under Balance of Performance. A £600 Sprint upgrade raised output to 540 PS for non-homologated use. Ask the seller which engine map is loaded.
What should a used one cost?
Recent UK auction sales sit around £74,500-79,500 (December 2024 and July 2026). A US auction car reached the equivalent of £142,000 in April 2023, before homologation ended. Dealers still ask around €170,000 for very low-mileage cars.
