History

EnerSys's Odyssey line brought military-and-aviation AGM (absorbed glass mat) technology to motorsport's battery problem, and the PC680 became the icon: a compact, sealed unit whose pure-lead thin-plate construction survives vibration that kills flooded batteries, mounts in any orientation (the sealed chemistry's gift to packaging), delivers the cranking bursts race engines demand, and tolerates the deep-cycle abuse of paddock electrics — the specification that made it kit-car, race-saloon and rally builds' default for two decades.

Charging discipline matters — AGM wants proper charge profiles; a battery's history of dumb chargers shortens its future. Against lithium the trade is weight-versus-cost-versus-rules; against cheaper AGMs the Odyssey premium buys the pure-lead construction's actual longevity. Used only cheap and load-tested; new is rational at this price tier.
