The Ralt RT4 was the customer single-seater of the early 1980s: Ron Tauranac's ground-effect Formula Atlantic/Pacific design won everything from Macau to the SCCA Runoffs and remains the benchmark of historic Atlantic racing.
History
Ron Tauranac — Brabham's co-founder and the most prolific customer-car designer of his age — built Ralt into the dominant junior-formula constructor, and the RT4 of 1980 applied his RT-series ground-effect thinking to the Atlantic/Pacific category: aluminium monocoque, sliding-skirt-era underbody, Ford BDD 1.6 power around 165 hp, and the meticulous production quality that made Ralts the professional's default.
The record followed everywhere the class raced: RT4s owned Formula Pacific's crown events — Macau Grand Prix wins in the early 1980s and the New Zealand international series where period stars did their winter racing — while in North America the car became THE Formula Atlantic chassis, sweeping SCCA and pro series grids for half a decade. Ayrton Senna's 1983 Macau victory in an RT4 remains the model's most quoted result.
Today the RT4 anchors historic Formula Atlantic: US vintage grids, New Zealand's classic single-seater scene and European historic meetings run strong fields, parts flow through recognized Ralt specialists, and provenance-rich cars — period Macau/NZ history, documented US titles — carry premiums the anonymous tubs don't.
