Chevron B24 (F5000)

History

Chevron entered Formula 5000's V8 theatre with the B24 (1973): the Bolton house's big-single-seater — the Chevrolet 5-litre's 500 horsepower in Bennett's construction discipline, the F5000 formula's stock-block economics against Formula 1's exotica — writing the class's most retold legend: Peter Gethin's 1973 Race of Champions victory (the Brands Hatch non-championship where the F5000 B24 beat the assembled Formula 1 field outright — the giant-killing the class's whole argument had promised), the European-and-British F5000 campaigns' wins, and the B28's 1974 evolution (the companion designation) continuing the line as the formula's decade matured.
