Lamborghini Gallardo Super Trofeo

The Gallardo Super Trofeo launched Lamborghini's one-make world in 2009 — the only four-wheel-drive single-marque racer of its era, 570 hp of V10 in a series billed as the world's fastest one-make championship.

History

Lamborghini's first factory-organized racing series arrived in 2009 around the Gallardo LP560-4: Squadra Corse stripped the road car, added a roll cage, racing aero with the era's towering rear wing, and kept — uniquely among one-make GTs — the permanent four-wheel drive, letting gentleman drivers deploy 570 hp with a safety net no rear-drive Cup car offered.

The Blancpain-backed Super Trofeo Europe grid filled with dealer-supported teams immediately, and the concept scaled: an Asia series followed in 2012, the LP570-4 evolution sharpened later seasons, and the format — pro, pro-am and am classes racing identical cars on GT weekends — became the template the Huracán series inherited wholesale in 2015.

Today the Gallardo Super Trofeo occupies a distinctive used niche: too specialized for GT3 grids, perfect for track days, national GT Cup classes and the emerging one-make classics scene. Prices sit well below Huracán ST money while the V10 soundtrack and AWD usability are undiminished — and Gallardo mechanicals, shared extensively with the Audi R8 family, keep specialist support broader than the badge suggests.

Palmarès

Super Trofeo Europe titles 2009–2014 across pro and am classes (the series' founding champions), Super Trofeo Asia crowns from 2012, world-final showdowns at the Blancpain finales, and national GT Cup class wins after retirement — the record that proved a Lamborghini customer series could sustain itself and seeded today's three-continent Super Trofeo pyramid.

What to check before you buy

Verify a genuine Squadra Corse build (chassis records exist; converted road Gallardos circulate and price lower), and which specification — original LP560-4 2009 cars versus later LP570-4-based updates — the car carries. The V10 is understressed and shared with Audi's R8, so engine support is wide; the e-gear/sequential shift system and AWD driveline carry the scheduled costs, and a documented recent service of both anchors value. Check cage datestamps and belts if you intend competition, front-splitter and floor damage from kerbs, and completeness of the ST-specific aero — those panels are the scarce parts now.

Did you know

  • The Gallardo Super Trofeo was the only four-wheel-drive one-make GT racer of its generation — Lamborghini marketed the traction as gentleman-driver insurance.
  • Lamborghini billed it 'the world's fastest one-make series' at launch — a straight-line claim the 570 hp AWD package could actually defend.
  • The series's dealer-team model was designed to sell cars twice: race the customer on Saturday, sell the road Gallardo on Monday — the commercial template every Squadra Corse programme since has followed.
