Oreca 07 (LMP2)
The Oreca 07 is the dominant prototype of its generation: winner of essentially every LMP2 crown since 2017, the near-universal choice of world endurance grids, and the rare racing car whose used market functions like a stock exchange.
History
Built to the 2017 LMP2 regulations around the spec Gibson GK428 V8, the Oreca 07 outclassed its Ligier, Dallara and Riley/Multimatic rivals immediately — on pace, but more decisively on operability: consistent aero balance, tolerant setup windows and Oreca's customer engineering made it the rational choice, and grids standardized around it within two seasons.
Its record since is close to categorical: LMP2 class wins at Le Mans nearly every year from 2017 onward, WEC and European Le Mans Series titles continuously, IMSA success as the basis of most LMP2 entries, and the platform's DNA extending upward — the Rebellion R13 LMP1 privateer and several hypercar-era test programmes built on 07 architecture. Periodic joker updates (aero, cooling, the 2024-era refresh) kept the design current across an unusually long homologation life.
For teams and owners the key fact is liquidity: dozens of chassis change hands each silly season as programmes shuffle between WEC, ELMS, IMSA and Asian series, with prices tracking update status and crash history in a transparent, well-brokered market — unique at this level of the sport.
Palmarès
LMP2 class winner at Le Mans 2017, 2018 (as Alpine A470 sister), 2019–2024 era wins; WEC LMP2 champion teams and drivers throughout the period; ELMS titles every season since 2017; IMSA LMP2 championships; Asian Le Mans crowns — the most complete category dominance by one chassis in modern endurance racing.
What to check before you buy
Buy the file: Oreca's chassis history (crash records, tub repairs, joker/update status) and the Gibson engine's lease/rebuild position define price far more than cosmetics. Confirm which aero specification and cooling package the car carries against your target series' homologation year, electronics inventory (some hardware is series-leased), and the spares package's real contents. Because the market is liquid, comparables exist — insist on them. An 07 with a current-spec update and fresh Gibson is effectively a turn-key WEC/ELMS entry.
Did you know
- At several recent Le Mans, every single LMP2 entry was an Oreca 07 or its Alpine-badged twin — a class monopoly achieved purely on merit.
- The Rebellion R13 that fought factory Toyotas for overall Le Mans podiums was structurally an Oreca 07 with LMP1 bodywork — the customer chassis moonlighting at the top class.
- Oreca's Signes factory sits beside Circuit Paul Ricard; new tubs can be shaken down within sight of the assembly hall.
