TM KZ10 engine

The TM KZ10 is gearbox karting's reference motor: the Pesaro maker's 125cc shifter engine (KZ10C evolutions refining it) whose world-title record made 'a TM' the KZ paddock's default answer to the engine question.

History

TM Racing's Pesaro operation built Italian two-stroke authority across motocross and karting, and the KZ10 line concentrated the karting half: 125cc reed-valve shifter engines for the KZ classes — gearbox karting's premier tier — whose evolution ladder (KZ10, B and C revisions refining porting, ignition and power character) accumulated CIK-FIA World Championship titles through the discipline's fiercest era, making TM the KZ world's benchmark against Vortex, Modena and the field.

Shifter-kart engineering is its own culture: ~48 hp at 14,000+ rpm through six-speed boxes, tuner-built race engines (the Italian preparatore tradition — engines blueprinted by named builders whose dyno rooms are the class's real grid) and the homologation-cycle rhythm CIK racing runs on.

Used KZ engines trade on builder-and-hours law: the preparatore's name and invoice (a named-tuner KZ10 prices far above factory-stock), hours since rebuild (top-end and bottom-end cycles the known arithmetic), homologation currency for your class, and the seals-and-provenance culture serious KZ paddocks enforce.

What to check before you buy

Builder-and-hours law: a KZ engine's value is its preparatore (named Italian tuners' work carries the premium — invoices and dyno sheets prove it) and rebuild arithmetic (top-end hours, bottom-end cycles — the class's known intervals price the clock). Verify homologation currency against your class's CIK cycle, cylinder/casing matching to the claimed revision (KZ10/B/C identities), and clutch-and-ignition spec completeness. Practice engines price honestly below race builds. The KZ market's Italian-paddock transparency (everyone knows everyone's tuner) is the buyer's protection — use it.

Did you know

  • The preparatore culture is KZ racing's real grid: engines carry their tuner's name like a signature, and the dyno room's reputation races too.
  • ~48 hp at 14,000 rpm from 125cc through a six-speed box is gearbox karting's arithmetic — the most violent power density in grassroots motorsport.
  • Pesaro's two-stroke tradition spans motocross and karting — TM's KZ authority is one town's port-timing knowledge compounding for decades.
