Description
This 1971 Lola T222 is one of eight produced for use in Can-Am competition, and one of five delivered new to US distributor Carl Haas. It was campaigned by privateer David Causey and completed six races during the 1971 season before sustaining fire damage at Laguna Seca. The car remained in his possession until 1990, when it was sold to Bud Bennett, who carried out a refurbishment. Subsequent owners drove the car in numerous vintage racing events throughout North America and Europe, including a victory at the 2003 Road & Track Invitational at Laguna Seca. A Roush-built 509ci Chevrolet V8 with an eight-stack fuel injection system was installed in 2016 at RM Motorsports of Wixom, Michigan, and the bodywork was replaced. Since the current owner’s purchase in 2023, the car has been maintained by Ian Lacy Racing in Tooele, Utah, and service has included rebuilding the shocks and overhauling the Hewland five-speed gearbox.
