Description
B.E. Motorsports of San Diego, California, built this 427ci SOHC “Cammer” V8 with a Hilborn injection system, and was purchased about 18 years ago. After the long-block assembly was completed, the engine was transported uncovered in a pickup through the desert to McCabe Racing in Chino Valley, Arizona, for installation in a car. Rob at McCabe Racing declined to install it because of dust contamination. The engine was then shipped to Larry at BeL Engine Services in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, where it was disassembled and rebuilt before being returned to McCabe Racing for installation and final assembly. The completed car was driven approximately 800 miles over the following 18 years. After January 2025, the engine was removed and mounted on a test stand. Sourced the carburetors, 2×4 intake manifold, 2×4 air-cleaner assembly, water pump, magnesium valve covers, fuel lines, filter canister, and other components to give the engine a more period-appropriate configuration. Brent at Lykins Motorsports was consulted when new camshafts were ordered, and the camshafts were installed by BeL Engine Services. The carburetors were rebuilt by Hardcore Holley Carb Rebuilders a few years ago, and the starter was replaced two months ago.
