Aston Martin Vantage GT3

The AMR-era Vantage GT3 (2019, Evo 2024) is Aston Martin's front-line customer racer: a Mercedes-AMG-engined, aero-led design that has won the Nürburgring 24 Hours pole battles, GTWC races and IMSA GTD honours while anchoring the brand's GT identity.

History

Aston Martin Racing's GT3 lineage runs from the DBRS9 through the long-lived V12 Vantage GT3 to the current turbo era. The 2019 Vantage GT3, developed alongside the road car's launch, switched to the AMG-sourced 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 — dry-sumped and remapped by AMR — inside a bonded-aluminium chassis with a rear-mounted Xtrac transaxle for weight distribution.

The design brief leaned on aerodynamics: the racing Vantage's huge front splitter and rear wing were developed with the same group that worked on Aston's Valkyrie programme, giving the car a stable, downforce-rich character that rewards commitment. Factory-supported teams (TF Sport, Garage 59, Heart of Racing) carried it across WEC-adjacent GT racing, GTWC, IMSA and British GT.

The 2024 Evo brought revised aero, cooling, dampers and a substantial electronics update, aligning the customer car with lessons from the GTE programme's swansong. As Aston Martin's only current customer racing product, the Vantage GT3 benefits from concentrated factory attention — and its used market tracks the brand's racing narrative closely.

Results include IMSA GTD championship success with Heart of Racing, GT World Challenge race wins and endurance podiums, British GT titles with TF Sport-run entries, class wins in the 24H Series, and front-running Nürburgring 24 Hours campaigns. The Evo added GTWC and IMSA victories in its first season, plus the model's DTM race-winning debut era with customer squads.

What to check before you buy

The AMG-based engine is a known quantity with long intervals — but AMR's remap and dry-sump hardware make service history through Aston Martin Racing partners essential, not optional. Verify Evo status or update-kit level, check the bonded-aluminium structure's repair file (bonding repairs must follow AMR procedure; insist on documentation), and inspect splitter and floor for the kerb damage this aero-led car invites. Electronics generations changed at the Evo; series-owned BoP hardware typically stays with championships. UK-based support is the deepest; buyers elsewhere should confirm their nearest AMR partner before committing.

Did you know

  • The Vantage GT3's V8 is built on the same AMG M177 architecture used by rival Mercedes GT3 road cars' engines — Aston races a heart shared with a competitor.
  • AMR's aero group cross-pollinated with the Valkyrie programme; the GT3's front splitter philosophy traces to that work.
  • TF Sport's Vantage operations have won at Le Mans in GTE trim with the same core engineering crew that runs customer GT3s — buyer diligence often literally involves the same people.
