Lamborghini Huracán GT3, GT3 EVO and GT3 EVO2 (2015–2026)
Lamborghini's customer GT3 car, built at Sant'Agata on the Huracán platform in three steps: GT3 (2015), GT3 EVO (2019) and GT3 EVO2 (2023). A 5.2-litre V10, rear-wheel drive and a six-speed sequential gearbox. It won Daytona three times running and Spa in 2025. Buyers get a proven, widely supported car with homologation to 2029.
History
Lamborghini showed the Huracán GT3 at Sant'Agata Bolognese on 21 January 2015. It was the first GT3 car its own motorsport department, Squadra Corse, had developed 1. Dallara Engineering worked on the composite body and the aerodynamics, with Gian Paolo Dallara involved in person 1. The car kept the road car's hybrid aluminium and carbon structure, the rear-mounted V10 and a Bosch Motorsport engine controller 1. Lamborghini quoted 1,230 kg and a price of €369,000 ex works, before local taxes 1. The spec sheet listed a six-speed Hör sequential gearbox, Brembo steel brakes and a 120 litre tank 2.
The first car raced in the Blancpain Endurance Series from 2015. In 2017 Grasser Racing took the Blancpain GT Series overall and Endurance Cup titles with Bortolotti, Engelhart and Caldarelli 11. By September 2018 Lamborghini counted more than 50 race wins and 12 series titles for the original car 3.
The GT3 EVO was shown at the Nürburgring in September 2018. Lamborghini said about half the car had been redesigned for a three-season cycle 3. Changes included the Performante road engine in place of the unit shared with the Audi R8 LMS, a new rear wing and splitter, lighter aluminium front arms, four-way dampers, improved ABS and adjustable power steering 3. A new EVO cost €389,000 and existing GT3 customers could buy an upgrade package 3. Lamborghini said the aim was lower running costs and a car easier for gentleman drivers 3.
The EVO2 followed on 4 May 2022, delayed one year because of the pandemic and to spare customer teams 45. It took the look of the Huracán STO: roof scoop, rear fin, new splitters, diffuser and underbody, plus individual throttle bodies 56. Lamborghini said the focus was drivability, reliability, maintenance and running costs rather than outright pace 4. The EVO2 debuted in 2023, and EVO cars could be converted with a kit 45. The FIA homologation of the EVO2 runs from 2022 to 2029, while the Temerario GT3 replaces it from 2026 13.
Palmarès
The Huracán GT3 family had taken 197 race wins by May 2026 15. Grasser Racing won the 2017 Blancpain GT Series overall and Endurance Cup titles 11. The GT Daytona class at the Daytona 24 Hours fell to the Huracán three years running: Grasser in 2018 and 2019, Paul Miller Racing in 2020 with a Lamborghini one-two 8910. Lamborghini also took the IMSA GTD manufacturers' title in 2018 and 2019, and two Sebring 12 Hours class wins by 2021 1014. The EVO2 won its first DTM race at Oschersleben in May 2023 15. On 29 June 2025 the #63 Grasser EVO2 of Bortolotti, Pepper and Engstler won the Spa 24 Hours outright by 8.7 seconds, Lamborghini's first win there 12.
What to check before you buy
Ask for engine km, gearbox km and chassis km as three separate numbers, with the last rebuild date for each: Listings quote them separately; a 2020 EVO was offered with 6,500 km on the engine, 4,000 km on the gearbox and a fresh differential. Confirm which version the car is and whether the EVO or EVO2 kit was fitted by Squadra Corse, with the homologation papers: EVO and EVO2 were sold as new cars or as kits; the EVO2 homologation runs to 2029, so a kitted car is worth more than an unconverted one. Identify the gearbox (Hör or Xtrac) and ask for the ratio set and the last overhaul report: The supplier quoted changed between the 2015 spec sheet and later cars; spares are not interchangeable. Check the torque sensors, ABS and traction-control electronics with the Bosch MS6.4 logs from the last event: A torque sensor fault forced a pit stop at Sebring 2025; the EVO2 depends on these sensors for BoP compliance. Inspect the fuel cell date, pumps and plumbing: The 120 litre FT3 cell has a life limit, and a fuel problem retired the Grasser car at Daytona 2020. List every spare body panel, splitter, diffuser and wheel set included, and whether spares are priced separately: Dealers often exclude the spares package from the car price; one 2021 EVO came with two bumpers and four wheel sets. Check dates on the seat, belts, extinguisher and fuel cell: The FIA 8862 seat, OMP extinguisher system and FT3 cell all expire; a seller stating they are in date is a good sign.
Versions and evolutions
| Version | Years | What changed | How to identify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Huracán GT3 | 2015-2018 | Original car. Engine shared with the Audi R8 LMS, Hör six-speed sequential, hydraulic power steering, €369,000 new 123 1 | Flat front bonnet without roof scoop, original rear wing, window-edge air intakes, Pirelli-era 18 inch wheels 25 |
| Huracán GT3 EVO | 2019-2022 | Performante-spec V10, new rear wing and front splitter, aluminium front arms, four-way dampers, adjustable power steering, improved ABS; €389,000 new or upgrade kit for GT3 cars 3 3 | Revised front splitter and rear wing supports; Xtrac gearbox quoted in later listings; still window-edge intakes without roof scoop 320 |
| Huracán GT3 EVO2 | 2023-2026 | STO-derived aero with roof scoop and rear fin, new splitters, diffuser and underbody, ten individual throttle bodies, torque sensors, ten-map traction control and ABS; also sold as a kit for EVO cars 4567 5 | Hexagonal roof scoop feeding a snorkel, rear fin on the engine cover, mostly closed side intakes behind the windows 56 |
Known issues
- Torque sensor faults on the EVO2 — Unscheduled pit stop to reset or replace the driveline torque sensor; Pfaff lost time this way at Sebring 2025 16
- Brake and electrical gremlins in long races — Two of three EVO2s at Sebring 2025 reported brake trouble, one of them also electrical faults in practice 16
- Fuel system failure — The defending Grasser car retired from Daytona 2020 with a fuel problem; teams report pumps and cell plumbing as a weak point to check 10
- Gearbox supplier changed across versions — 2015 cars list a Hör unit, EVO and EVO2 listings quote Xtrac; spares and ratios differ, so a car must be checked against its own build sheet 2
- Carbon body panels and splitters — Quick-fix panels are consumables in traffic; sellers list spare bumpers and splitters with the car because new ones are expensive 20
- Engine and gearbox life counted in km — Sellers quote engine and gearbox km separately from chassis km; a 2022 car had 3,656 km on the engine and 2,959 km on the gearbox 19
