Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 (2022–present)
The Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 is Škoda Motorsport's current four-wheel-drive customer rally car, homologated in September 2022 on the fourth-generation Fabia. It runs a 1.6-litre turbo with a 32 mm restrictor and a five-speed sequential gearbox. It is the volume choice for WRC2, ERC and national championships, and the car most privateers buy new or nearly new.
History
Škoda Motorsport showed the Fabia RS Rally2 at Mladá Boleslav on 14 June 2022 after almost a year of testing on tarmac, gravel and snow in seven countries and in northern Finland 11. The car sits on the fourth-generation Fabia body and replaces the Fabia Rally2 evo. The engine is new: a 1,620 cc turbo four derived from the EA888 family, with a new turbocharger, a larger charge-cooling circuit, new pistons and reworked ports 8. The FIA restrictor of 32 mm limits output to around 214 kW and 430 Nm 8. The five-speed sequential gearbox and two mechanical differentials follow Rally2 rules 1.
The planned debut at Rally Finland in August 2022 slipped because of supply problems with parts 9. The FIA homologated the car on 1 September 2022 2, and Andreas Mikkelsen won first time out at the Lausitz Rallye in Germany in November 2022 12. Seven cars started the 2023 Monte Carlo Rally, the car's first WRC round 10. Mikkelsen took the 2023 WRC2 drivers' title with four wins 10.
Rally2 rules freeze the main components at homologation. Within the first two years Škoda could file three performance jokers plus two for safety or reliability 2. In March 2024 it used two: quick couplers and a rear-differential disconnect that lets the rear axle free when the handbrake is pulled 3. A second set of longer gear ratios for fast gravel and new gravel dampers followed, and aero changes were rolled out gradually 23. In March 2025 came Packet 25: a lighter exhaust, new engine software, more durable gravel dampers, protection for driveshaft boots, calipers and brake hoses at the rear uprights, a new roof vent and optional 2 kg lighter seats 67. It is standard on new cars and sold to existing owners 7.
Deliveries passed 100 in July 2024 10 and reached the 200th car in 2025, with 94 cars handed over that year 6. Every car delivered in 2026 carries a 125 Years package with polycarbonate rear windows, CV joint sleeves, light engine wiring, an updated centre panel and magnesium OZ rims 25. Buyers should note the class timeline: new Rally2 homologations are due to stop in 2026 and the last homologation validity runs to 2030, depending on the car 24.
Palmarès
The car won on its debut at the Lausitz Rallye in November 2022 12. Andreas Mikkelsen took the 2023 WRC2 drivers' title with four wins and a 33-point margin 10. Toksport WRT won the WRC2 teams' title with it in 2023 and again in 2025, when Nikolay Gryazin also took the WRC2 Challenger title 13. Miko Marczyk won the 2025 FIA European Rally Championship, the first Polish ERC champion since 2017 15. In 2025 alone the model recorded 4,366 starts, 442 wins, 1,154 podiums and 20 national titles, plus the APRC and Middle East titles 14. Škoda counted 794 victories from 5,753 starts up to October 2026 16.
What to check before you buy
Chassis number, factory date and which jokers and Packet 25 items are fitted: A 2023 car without Joker 01-03 and Packet 25 is a step behind on gravel dampers, ratios and protection; the update package is sold separately. Mileage sheet per component: engine, turbo, gearbox, differentials, disconnector, clutch, dampers, uprights: Serious sellers quote km since new or rebuild for each item; 2024-25 cars are offered with gearbox and differentials freshly rebuilt at around 2,000 km. FIA Gold Passport and the original Škoda homologation folder: Needed for scrutineering in WRC2 and ERC; adverts without them are harder to enter abroad. Expiry dates of seats, harnesses, fuel tank and extinguishers: Listings show seats to 2033-2035, harnesses to 2029-2030, extinguisher service every two years; replacing a full set is a real cost. Which surface kit is included: tarmac, gravel or both: Most cars are sold in one specification; the second kit (dampers, uprights, brakes, wheels) is a separate negotiation. Engine software version and fuel maps: Cars with AVL460 software carry several fuel maps for different series fuels; older software may lack them. Data logger licence, cable and software: The internal and external logger upgrade is licensed; without it you cannot read the car properly. Rally history and retirements: Ask for the event list; sellers of low-start cars state 'no retirements, no mechanical failures' and you should verify it on ewrc-results.
Versions and evolutions
| Version | Years | What changed | How to identify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Launch specification | 2022-2023 | Homologated 1 September 2022 with one set of gear ratios. First cars delivered to customers for the 2023 season. 2 | No joker updates listed in the homologation folder; original gravel dampers; low two-digit chassis numbers. |
| 2024 jokers | 2024 | Quick couplers, rear-differential disconnect on the handbrake, second (longer) gear ratio set for fast gravel, revised gravel dampers, aero updates deployed gradually. 3 | Seller lists Joker 01, 02 and 03 as fitted; disconnector in the rear differential. |
| Packet 25 | 2025 | Optimised exhaust, new engine control software, more durable gravel dampers (RS.2.G), rear upright protection, roof air intake, optional lighter seats. 6 | Adverts quote 'Packet 25' or 'full spec 2025'; AVL460 software; roof scoop feeding the cabin. |
| 125 Years edition | 2026 | Standard on all 2026 deliveries: polycarbonate rear windows, crossmember covers, CV joint sleeves, light engine wiring, updated centre panel, six magnesium OZ rims, anniversary livery and plaque. 25 | Dark Chrome bonnet badge, interior plaque, '125 Years' start screen on the dash. |
Known issues
- Rear upright area exposed on gravel — Torn driveshaft boots, damaged brake calipers and brake cooling hoses after rough events; Packet 25 added protection here. 7
- Early gravel dampers — Pre-2025 gravel dampers wore faster; Škoda replaced them twice, first with the 2024 units then with the more durable RS.2.G Packet 25 dampers. Sellers now quote damper rebuilds every few hundred km. 18
- Radiator and cooling damage — Stones and impacts on gravel; one crew retired from Rally Poland 2025 with a water cooler problem. 26
- Cabin heat and airflow — Crews complained of poor ventilation; Packet 25 reworked the roof intake to feed the cabin. 6
- Seals on uniballs and brake calipers — Dust and water ingress; Škoda issued updated caliper seals and a uniball sealing update, which sellers list as fitted. 17
- CV joints and driveshafts — Revised CV joints appear on 2025 cars and CV joint sleeves are part of the 2026 package, which points to wear in this area. 25

Frequently asked questions
How much does a new Fabia RS Rally2 cost?
Is a 2023 car worth buying against a 2025 one?
What are the rebuild intervals?
Which championships can I enter?
What paperwork should come with the car?
Is the RS better than the Fabia Rally2 evo?
It is newer, on a larger body, with a new engine and more development left in it. The evo is cheaper, with asking prices of 155,000-220,000 EUR in 2026 against 260,000-305,000 EUR for the RS 22. For national rallies the evo still wins; for WRC2 or ERC the RS is the car to have.
