Audi RS3 LMS TCR
The RS3 LMS brought Audi Sport's industrial discipline to TCR in 2017: over 180 first-generation cars sold, WTCR race wins and 24-hour class dominance — the category's volume seller alongside the founding SEATs.
History
Audi Sport customer racing entered TCR with characteristic scale: the RS3 LMS of 2017 packaged the EA888 2.0 turbo at ~330 hp, a six-speed sequential and TCR's controlled aero into a saloon (unusual against the class's hatches) built and supported like a junior GT3 — and priced to move. Over 180 gen-1 cars sold worldwide within two seasons, instantly making Audi a TCR volume power.
The record followed the fleet: WTCR race wins across 2018–2021 (Comtoyou and Team WRT campaigns), TCR Europe and national titles from Germany to Australia, and a specialty in endurance TCR — Nürburgring 24 Hours class wins and 24H Series championships where the saloon shell's stiffness and Audi's parts logistics told. The gen-2 car of 2021 (new front, updated safety and electronics) extended the line.
Used RS3 LMS economics mirror the GT3 customer playbook: big fleet, documented chassis, Audi Sport parts flow, transparent pricing by generation and homologation state. For clubman TCR and endurance touring classes it competes with the León as the rational buy — German support networks often tipping the choice.
Palmarès
WTCR race victories 2018–2021 including Comtoyou's multi-win seasons; TCR Europe, TCR Germany and Australian TCR championships; Nürburgring 24 Hours TCR class wins and repeated 24H Series titles; TCR Middle East and Asian crowns — the breadth record of the class's biggest early fleet.
What to check before you buy
Generation and homologation first: gen-1 (2017) and gen-2 (2021) cars differ in front structure, electronics and eligibility windows — Audi Sport's chassis file documents build, updates and crash history. The EA888 is understressed with long intervals; the sequential's rebuild schedule and the front-driveline consumables (TCR's physical racing eats track-rod ends and subframes) are the checks. Verify BoP-era hardware completeness and data-system generation. With comparables plentiful, price against the fleet — and favour cars with Nürburgring/endurance documentation, where preparation standards run highest.
Did you know
- Audi chose the saloon RS3 body partly for cage geometry — the boot structure gave engineers stiffness the hatch rivals compensated for with weight.
- The RS3 LMS's 180+ first-gen sales outpaced some GT4 models' entire production — TCR's cost cap met Audi's dealer network and arithmetic won.
- At several Nürburgring 24 Hours the TCR class podium has been all-RS3 — Audi's endurance-first customer culture translating down a category.
